Timing is everything if you want the most out of your sexual life. It’s especially true when you take Viagra for erectile dysfunction (ED). ED medications such as Viagra (generic name sildenafil), have a specific time window during which they work. It might be time to evaluate if you need to take the little blue pill every day.

What is Cialis?

Cialis is a medical drug available to us under the generic name Tadalafil which belongs to a class of medication called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. This medicine is used to treat sexual related disorders observed in men such as erection dysfunction or impotence. This medicine increases the blood flow in the penis so that erection is achieved and maintained. Cialis is available as a lower-strength tablet that can be taken on a daily basis, eliminating the need to ‘plan’ for sex.

Working Mechanism

Viagra

Viagra works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the walls of blood vessels. This increases the flow of blood to the penis resulting in easier and longer erection. It works only during sexual stimulation.

Viagra is not a cure for erectile dysfunction but a medicine to achieve erection in disabled men. It is a kind of medicine that is available to us with a generic name Sildenafil which also belongs to Phosphodiesterase(PDE) inhibitors class of medication.

Cialis

It is thought that Cialis relaxes the smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder. It does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, and syphilis). The PDE5 inhibitors only work in the presence of nitric oxide, which is naturally released by the body during sexual arousal. About 60 to 70 percent of people take PDE5 inhibitors.

Cialis is available in several doses in tablet form: 2.5 milligrams (mg), 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg. Depending on the dose for ED, you can use it as needed before sexual activity, or take it once a day.

How to use?

Cialis and Viagra, both are available to us in a form of pill that must be taken by mouth as per your requirement but not more than 4 hours before sexual intercourse. The dosage and length of the treatment is based on your medical condition, response to the treatment and other medicine that you may be taking. You may take this medicine at the same time daily for improvement.

Swallow the tablet whole rather than chewing or crushing it in your mouth as it may release all the drug in your mouth which increases the risk of side effects. Your doctor may start you with a low dose which will increase gradually. Discuss all the other medicines that you might be taking along with Cialis or Viagra for the same or different reasons. Follow the medical prescription carefully and inform your doctor in case of any exception or confusion.

  • Cialis has a faster onset of action than Viagra. As little as 30 minutes before sex is acceptable when taking Cialis, but a full hour before sex is required when using Viagra. It is also recommended that you take Viagra on an empty stomach rather than Cialis.
  • Both the medicines are of similar drug class and shares similar side effects even in usual and unusual occurrence.
  • Viagra last up to 4-6 hours inside user’s body whereas effects of Cialis could last up to 36 hours after its intake.
  • Cialis has a standard dosage of 2.5mg, 5mg, and 10mg whereas Viagra has a standard dose of 50mg, 100mg, and 200mg. This clearly shows that Cialis is more potent than Viagra and is also used in treatment of Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) along with ED.
  • The treatment time with both these medicine is prescribed by the doctor which could vary depending upon individual’s condition.
  • In general, Cialis and Viagra are both effective and safe medications. Both types of prescription medications are available to treat erectile dysfunction, but before taking either, talk with your healthcare provider about how you feel and your ED symptoms.
