Caverject is a medical drug available to us under the generic name Alprostadil which belongs to a class of medication called Prostaglandins. Caverject is generally used to treat sexual related problems in men such as erectile dysfunction(inability to achieve or maintain an erection). The medicine expands the blood vessels so that more flow can flow to the penis which causes erection sexual activity. 

Mechanism of Action

Caverject is a kind of drug that induces erection of trabecular smooth muscle of your penis. This drug dilates the cavernosal arteries by binding to its receptors. It also increases the level of intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) via the modulation of adenylate cyclase..

How to use Caverject?

Caverject is available to us in a form of medical powder that must be converted into a solution which is injected in the body. Follow the medical guide to prepare a solution and inject yourself if doing it on your own. Wash your hands before preparing the syringe and inject yourself immediately after the solution is ready inside the injector. Throw away unused mixture in the syringe and needles of the injector. Discuss all the other medicines that you might be taking along with Caverject for the same or different reasons. Side effects of Caverject

Common side effects observed while medicating with caverject are unusual discharge from your penis, cough, dizziness, headache, stuffy nose, back pain, etc may occur. There are some rare serious side effects which must be informed to the doctor right away if observed such as redness/tenderness/swelling of the penis, lumps or unusual curving of the penis, etc.

How long does it take to work?

Typically, erection from Caverject may last upto an hour which may be effective even after ejaculation. You must not use alprostadil more than 3 times a week with at least a 24 hours interval in between.

Things to avoid using alprostadil

Although Caverject is safe when used as per guideline, there are several conditions in which one must avoid using this medicine. People allergic to such medicines, allergic to food, drinks or such preservatives, had gone through a penile implant or a history of prolonged erection which is not linked with sexual stimulation. Inform your doctor before using alprostadil.
